The
food at Notten’s is always delicious and it is known as one of the finest
private safari lodges in Mpumalanga. Meals are a social event and guests
gather in the enclosed boma around a log fire under a canopy of stars in
winter or in the open plan summerhouse lit up with candlelight during summer.
Meals are eaten together around one communal table, with the company of
the Notten’s and their Notten’s Bush Camp team. This creates a wonderful
atmosphere and an opportunity for the guests to share stories and conversation
with other interesting people from South Africa and around the world.
The
excellent cuisine consists of a traditional bush breakfast with fresh fruits,
yogurts, mueslis and freshly baked muffins followed by eggs of one’s choice,
crispy bacon, fried tomatoes, mushrooms, and the chef’s speciality of the
day.

| The
buffet high tea/lunch, served at three o’clock is a delicious spread of
freshly baked quiches, breads and pies, an array of succulent garden salads,
a selection of cheese and cold meats all to be finished off with the chef’s
heavenly cakes. The three-course dinner is a wholesome delight of traditional
flavours. The menu is varied with all tastes being catered for at
Notten's Bush Camp.
The
meat dishes consist of a grilled bush chicken, meaning spatchcock chicken,
which is stuffed under the skin with lemon zest, lemon juice, herbs, celery,
onion and lots of feta. It is basted with lemon and olive oil and then
roasted to a succulent perfection. This is served with a lemon gravy. Our
game casseroles, stews and stroganoffs are served with mashed potato and
are a must on cold winter nights. |

|
Some
of our all time favourites are roast leg of lamb done with good old fashioned
Mrs Ball's chutney and rosemary. Oxtail, lamb bredie's and rump steak are
just a few of the delicious meat dishes which are served. Notten's home-made
pies are always a treat.
The
starch dishes consist of crispy roast potatoes, crunchy baked potatoes
served with sour cream and butter, oven roasted chips with rosemary and
olive oil, baby new potatoes roasted with honey and mustard. Basmati rice
with braised onions, wild rice or a hot couscous dish. One never goes short! |
|
|
| Vegetarians
never go hungry at Notten's as the veggie dishes are of the freshest and
highest standard. Roasted veg, stirfries, creamed spinach, traditional
curried cabbage, a mix veg dish in a delicate and light white sauce with
a bread and cheese topping or a delicious brinjal, tomato and mozzarella
bake are popular. Roasted vine tomatoes are also a huge success. Cumin
carrots or garlic beans are just a few of Notten's Bush Camp's delights.
Desserts
are always waited for with baited breath. A varied selection including
a light lemon mousse, a strawberry and chocolate cheesecake, death by chocolate
tart, citron tart, crunchy almond tart, fruit ice-creams, traditional cape
brandy and malva puddings, tiramisu, french fruit tart with delicate crème
patisserie whet the appetites of Notten's guest. |
